Through my eyes

Home / Late night thoughts / Through my eyes

When I was a child, I saw God, I saw angels;
I watched the mysteries of the higher and lower worlds.I thought all men saw the same.

At last I realized that they did not see…
-Shams of Tabriz

As I roamed aimlessly in the streets, I couldn’t help but wonder whether people looked at things the same way I did.

Do we all see similar sights? Lately I was sure we didn’t.

When you watch something, you project upon it everything you hold inside: your aspirations, your fears and all the hope and love you carry in your heart. The look of a female beggar with a child on her arm, the drops of sweat falling from the temple of a street vendor eager that I take one of his gardenia necklaces, the old forgotten building in front of a skyscraper, all remained an intact polished image in my memory.

When a sight spikes the interest of a photographer, the latter takes the picture and displays all he sees through his lens. Knowing too well that I just didn’t have what it takes to snap a decent non blurry, non-miserable shot of what I saw, and that I just couldn’t keep all these scenes carved in the temporal lobe of my brain, I decided to use what resources I had, I picked out my notebook and I wrote..
